La historia sigue al joven maestro Mu Qingyan, decidido y astuto, y a la heroína Cai Zhao, relajada y de espíritu libre, cuya intensa relación oscila entre la dulzura y la angustia. Ambientada en la década de 1970, Fei Ni, una ambiciosa trabajadora de una fábrica textil, sueña con cambiar su destino a través de la educación.
